  • The Monchiero Barolo Montanello 2017 DOCG smells of dark cherries, but also has earthy notes with a hint of exotic spices.

    The Montanello vineyard is one of the oldest in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. With foresight, Vittorio Monchiero bought two hectares of vines from this historic vineyard in the early 1990s. The south-west orientation and the soil composition, mainly marl, create ideal conditions for the cultivation of Nebbiolo vines.

    During October, the grapes are harvested by hand and after destemming, they ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Then they are then matured in large oak barrels. Depending on the vintage, this process takes at least 24 months. The aging will not be complete until the wine has been bottled and has finished its six-month aging.

    On the palate it is well structured, dense and balanced with sandy tannins. Very long and gripping aftertaste, but still very pleasantly elegant.

    As food accompaniments we recommend red meat, risotto, game and mature cheese. This wine is ready to drink immediately and for the next 8-10 years.

    Right in the heart of Barolo production is the Monchiero winery, which has been producing wine for almost a century in the fourth generation. The winery is located in the Barolo municipality of Castiglione Falletto and has made a name for itself for high-quality single-vineyard Barolo wines. Today, Daniela and Vittorio Monchiero, with the support of their sons Stefano and Luca, run this small winery and produce first-class and sustainable wines in keeping with the culture and tradition of the region.

    This Barolo goes very well with braised meat, game, red meat, risotto with mushrooms and aged hard cheeses.
