Powerful, spicy fragrance with dark aromas such as liquorice, raisins and some oak; full-bodied, juicy, with a sweet note. 17/20 drinking recommendation: mid-2022-2034
The Alessandria family has been producing the Barolo red wine from the Cru San Giovanni, located in the municipality of Monforte D'Alba, for many years. On the eastern side of the vineyard, Gianfranco has leased almost 2 hectares of vineyards on a long-term basis.
The grapes are handpicked in October if the grapes grow normally. The grapes are fermented in special stainless steel fermentation tanks and the second fermentation also takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in French barrique barrels, some new and some used, for a period of 24 months. The last step is aging in the bottle before the Gianfranco Alessandria Barolo 2017 DOCG goes on sale.
The result is a quality Barolo with dark and balsamic flavors, fullness and concentration on the palate with strong tannins, balance and complexity. This Barolo is a good accompaniment to roasts, game and red meat. With pasta with truffles, as well as with mature cheeses.
